The Washington Commanders are entering a pivotal year in the Ron Rivera era.

Rivera made it to the team with the task of taking their defense to a whole new level.

And even though they have the personnel and the talent to pull that off, they still haven’t shown up in the way the fans and analysts expected them to.

With that in mind, former Commanders star Fred Smoot predicted a breakout year by Chase Young and Kamren Curl.

He predicted that Young would remind everyone just how good he is and all the things he’s capable of, adding that he’s going to have multiple sacks next season.

For Curl, he predicted he’d be a beast in terms of interceptions, also citing that he’s the leader and quarterback of that defense.

Notably, Curl has the potential to be a top-3 DB in the league when he’s at his best, but he still needs to prove himself.

He’s an impressive athlete with a great nose for the football, yet he hasn’t been as consistent as some would want.

As for Young, he will literally be playing for a new contract next season, whether it’s with the Commanders or any other organization.

Young was the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year and showcased the potential to be a disruptive force on the line of scrimmage for years to come.

Injuries and the Commanders’ financial decisions with defensive players put him in a tough spot this season, so he’ll have to prove his worth again after having his fifth-year option declined.
