Flood Zones & Elevation Certificate Basics: What You Should Tell Buyers & Sellers

*February’s session on flood zones was postponed due to weather, so this session covers that topic as well as elevation certificates.*

Flood Zones: Most people live in both a flood zone and a floodplain, and flooding can and does happen in any area. Learn all about the FEMA flood zones, when the mandatory purchase of flood insurance applies and why flood insurance is recommended in all flood zones. Attendees will have the opportunity to get questions answered on flood zones, flood risk and flood insurance.

Elevation Certificates: An elevation certificate is a form that documents key elevation and flood risk information about structures like the height of the lowest floor and machinery. Many NFIP participating communities use the elevation certificate to make sure structures are built and rebuilt to local flood safety standards. It is required for communities in the NFIP Community Rating System, and flood insurance agents use elevation certificates to get accurate quotes for flood insurance.
