This segment from the “What’s in a Name, Part 1” episode of the series “Lost Louisiana” from December 8, 2005, features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Dry Prong in Grant Parish near the Kisatchie National Forest. Whinham tours the original site of the village of Dry Prong, two miles away from its current location, with former Mayor Glynn Maxwell. Maxwell talks about the village being named after the site of the town’s mill on the dry prong of a creek, the importance of the mill to the town, and the Native Americans that lived in the area. Whinham and Maxwell also tour the remnants of the training areas used during the Louisiana Maneuvers, war games held prior to the United States entering World War II.
