BATON ROUGE – The driver of a car where Madison Brooks was allegedly raped before her death has been indicted for rape.

Casen Carver, 18, was indicted for first-degree rape and third-degree rape by a grand jury on Wednesday.

According to arrest documents, Carver did not have sex with Brooks. He was arrested for principal to third-degree rape on Jan. 23, 2023 and later bonded out.

Prosecutors allege that Carver physically assisted in the rape of Brooks, which by Louisiana law constitutes as first-degree rape. They also believe Carver took part knowing Brooks was intoxicated, which establishes a basis for third-degree rape.

Investigators have determined that 19-year-old LSU student Madison Brooks was killed on Jan. 15 after a night of heavy drinking at Reggie’s Bar in Tigerland.

WBRZ obtained video of Brooks leaving the bar with four men, later identified as 18-year-old Casen Carver, 18-year-old Kaivon Washington, 28-year-old Everett Lee and a 17-year-old male.

Deputies say Carver drove the group to a parking spot where Washington and the 17-year-old both had sex with Brooks. Arrest records say Carver and Lee were sitting in the front seats.

Shortly before his arrest, Washington spoke with Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto. He told WBRZ the sex was consensual.

Washington said when Brooks asked to go home, they brought her back to where she told them she wanted to be dropped off, near the Pelican Lakes subdivision off of Burbank Drive.

Washington said Brooks gave them multiple different addresses before she got out of the car. She was killed a short time later after she wandered into the middle of Burbank. The driver who hit her was not arrested and is not suspected of being impaired.

Medical professionals determined Brooks BAC at the time of her death was .319.
