DeMarcus Cousins may not have a team this season, but not too long ago he was a star for the Sacramento Kings.

Even though it has been about six years since he last suited up for the franchise, he still has good feelings about it, as well as its fanbase.

Cousins told Rachel Nichols that he is happy for Kings fans and the city of Sacramento amidst the surprisingly successful season the team is having.

Not too many people were expecting a whole lot from the Kings when this season started, but they have seriously blossomed.

They currently hold the third-best record in the Western Conference at 36-25, and their best player, point guard De’Aaron Fox, is having a career season, averaging 25.4 points while shooting 51.5 percent from the field.

Sacramento has been getting it done on offense, as it came into Wednesday leading the NBA with 120.7 points per game while also ranking first in offensive rating.

Kings fans have always been some of the most passionate and raucous in the league, dating back to when their team came very close to winning the world championship in 2002 and even when it was a laughingstock throughout the 1990s.

But Cousins wasn’t sure if the Kings will be able to “light the beam” come playoff time because of their poor defense.

That is the knock on them, as they rank just 25th in defensive rating.

If they draw a hot Golden State Warriors or Los Angeles Lakers team in the first round of the playoffs, they could be in trouble, but otherwise, they should have a real shot at winning their first playoff series since 2004.
