Cubs Analyst Shares A Message To The Team About A Star Player

The Chicago Cubs have given away mixed signs of what they want to do in the last couple of years.

Ahead of the 2021 trade deadline, they traded long-time franchise greats such as Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Craig Kimbrel, and others in what looked like the start of a rebuild.

In the offseason, they spent more than $70 million on Marcus Stroman and paid a high price to bring in Seiya Suzuki, plus other free agents.

At the same time, they failed to trade All-Star catcher Willson Contreras ahead of hitting free agency, the opposite of what they did with Rizzo, Bryant, Baez and others.

All things considered, the Cubs want to compete but don’t always make the right decisions.

And if they want to compete, they should definitely consider re-signing Contreras.

“Sounds like exactly the type of guy the Cubs should extend,” Cubs analyst Sara Sanchez tweeted after quoting another tweet saying that the catcher had been nominated for a Silver Slugger Award.

Contreras Would Probably Want To Stay With The Cubs If Offered The Chance

If you followed the Cubs’ season this year, it’s evident he wants to stay in Chicago.

He was emotional before the trade deadline and also in the last home game of the season.

The Cubs are the only franchise he has known since debuting in 2016.

And he remains an asset offensively and defensively: in 2022, he slashed .243/.349/.466 with 22 home runs and a 132 wRC+ (100 being the league average).

He has 43 home runs in the last two seasons, he knows Cubs’ pitchers and he is still in his prime.

He will cost money, sure, but he deserves it.

What better place for him to be than Chicago?
