It’s not a secret that the New York Mets have been very good this year; and the Cincinnati Reds have been very bad, especially at the beginning.

The Mets lead the NL East with a 3.5-game cushion over the Atlanta Braves, while the Reds are last in the NL Central at 29-54.

For the Mets, each victory is crucial, as it helps them maintain the distance with the Braves, or increase it.

Outfielder Brandon Nimmo knows this.

However, his postgame comments may have gotten a bit out of hand when he talked about the opponent.

“Brandon Nimmo: ‘A very important win, even though it’s against, yeah, Cincinnati,’” the New York Post’s Mike Puma tweeted.

It’s Unusual To See A Player Talking The Way Nimmo Did

While he is right when he implies the Reds are not good, it’s not usual to see players talking so candidly about the opponent’s skill or talent level in front of the microphones and recorders.

It’s also not very cool on his part.

While Reds fans have had to endure a horrible year that started with ownership getting rid of some of the best players on the roster over money, the Mets are finally enjoying the good times after a dark period following their 2015 World Series berth.

Nimmo could be regretting the quote already, as Reds fans certainly didn’t enjoy it.

At least he recognizes that the victory was incredibly important for the Mets.

They are going to play against the Miami Marlins over the weekend, before taking on the Braves in what looks like a key series for each team.

The Mets can put some ground between them and Atlanta, and the Braves can catch New York in a best-case scenario.
