The New York Yankees had quite an eventful American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians.

It took them the whole five games and two rainouts to top the AL Central champions.

As a result, the tight calendar got even tighter and they didn’t have time to celebrate their Game 5 victory on Tuesday.

Well, they had time, and that’s the problem.

It took a lot of time and energy for the Yanks to beat the pesky Guards, so they wanted to celebrate at least for a little while.

The calendar didn’t allow anything more than that, as they were off to Houston almost immediately.

However, those beers and the champagne, and especially the short sleep time, could affect the Yankees in Game 1 against one of the best pitchers in baseball.

While it’s true that Verlander struggled in Game 1 of the Division Series against the Seattle Mariners, his work in the regular season can’t be ignored.

He tossed 175 innings of a 1.75 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP, numbers that put him in contention for the Cy Young award.

Nobody knows how much alcohol the Yankees players had last night, but there is a non-zero chance that some players are not in tip-top physical condition to play, at least in Game 1.

With the rainouts and the series going to five games, days off were scarce.

In any case, it should be a fun, competitive series, but it’s something worth monitoring.
