Another leak confirms Samsung Galaxy S23 price hike internationally
We are officially less than a week away from the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup. Next Wednesday, the Korean tech giant’s flagship series for 2023 will finally be revealed.
Not that there is much to reveal at this point. One thing that we do not know, however, is how much the Galaxy S23 will cost. Reports have been conflicting. Some speculate that Samsung will not raise the prices in order to remain competitive, while others seem to think that a hike is inevitable.
Unfortunately, we now have more reason to think the latter will be the case. After revealing the prices of the S23 family in Spain, prominent tech leaker Roland Quandt has shared a new interesting bit of information in a tweet. By the looks of it, Samsung’s flagships will be more expensive in Denmark as well.
By extension, we can now safely assume that the Galaxy S23 will cost more in the EU and, most likely, in the United Kingdom. Coincidently, Apple also raised prices in those markets with the iPhone 14 lineup, because of the relative weakness of the euro and the pound in late 2022.
The question is what is Samsung’s excuse. Apple has historically priced its products with a US market focus, but the Korean tech giant has always strived to keep prices similar across countries. What is Samsung’s plan?
It is possible that Samsung is mirroring Apple’s pricing strategy in key markets in order to simultaneously remain competitive, but also squeeze as much profits as possible in the process.If that is the case, the Galaxy lineup should not be more expensive in the US.
Nevertheless, it hardly makes sense for Samsung to make it less expensive for Europeans to order an S23 from the US and pay duties separately, than to buy a device directly in their home country.
This leads us to another scenario. Namely, that despite what the leaked information says thus far, a price increase in the US is not out of the cards just yet.
