After Hurricane Katrina, white children got aid, but we didn't

Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the coast of Louisiana in the U.S. on August 29, 2005, killing over 1,800 people and displacing more than a million. Since the hurricane, the African-American community in New Orleans has been recovering slowly.

Recalling the experiences during the storm and the recovery, New Orleans filmmaker Edward Buckles Jr. says he and his peers didn’t receive as much aid or mental health counseling as children in white and wealthy communities.
