The Kansas City Chiefs drew plenty of criticism when they signed Patrick Mahomes to a 10-year contract.

But so far, so good for the organization, as the quarterback has cemented himself as the best player in the league by a very long stretch, and they’ve even won a Super Bowl ever since.

Now, the word around the league is that the Chiefs are looking to make Mahomes the highest-paid quarterback in the league again.

And while he obviously likes the money, he recently stated that his motivation isn’t to be the highest earner but to push the bar up and do right for his fellow QBs:

“No. No,” said Mahomes. “It’s more of a, you just want to do whatever it, to not hurt other quarterbacks whenever their contracts come up. You want to kind of keep the bar pushing. It’s not about being the highest-paid guy. It’s not about making a ton of money. I’ve made enough money where I’ll be set for the rest of my life.

Mahomes already has plenty of cash to spare, and his father used to play in Major League Baseball, so it’s not like he grew up poor or anything like that.

Obviously, the best players in the game should be treated as such, and no one would ever complain about Mahomes getting a huge bag again; he’s proven to be worthy of it.

But Tom Brady also proved to the league that sometimes you need to make sacrifices for the sake of the team if you want to compete at the highest level and be a contender for years to come, so Mahomes could also take a page out of his book at some point in his career.

The Chiefs will continue to be the team to beat in the league until proven otherwise, so they’ll gladly pay every single penny they have to keep their star player happy.
