The Giants Are Signing A Former Commanders Defensive Back
After a surprisingly successful 2022 season, the New York Giants have largely decided to run it back.
They gave quarterback Daniel Jones a huge new contract, retaining running back Saquon Barkley using their franchise tag and have also managed to keep other key players such as wide receiver Darius Slayton.
But New York is also bringing in some outside reinforcements.
It has given Jones another weapon by trading for tight end Darren Waller, a former Pro Bowler in 2020, while also signing linebacker Bobby Okereke.
On Tuesday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Giants have agreed with defensive back Bobby McCain on a one-year contract.

McCain has been a full-time starter for the last several seasons, mostly at the safety position, and he has spent the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders.
In 2022, his production declined, but he still managed to record 76 total tackles (54 solo), five passes defended and three tackles for loss.
He could become a replacement for Julian Love, who is leaving New York after four seasons with the team.
Indeed, defense was a strength for the Giants when they had success this past season.
They started the schedule 6-1, and they held five opponents to 20 points or less during that span.
After finishing the regular season 9-7-1, New York looked poised to make some noise in the playoffs, and sure enough, it pulled off an inspiring upset of the 13-4 Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round.
However, the NFC appears to be getting tougher, so perhaps the Giants will have to improve as a team in order to make the playoffs again in 2023.
