The Chicago Bears have been busy at work this offseason, looking to build a winning team around quarterback Justin Fields while giving him the type of players who could help unlock his potential as a passer.

They traded the No. 1 pick in next month’s draft to the Carolina Panthers for four picks, including the ninth selection this year, and wide receiver D.J. Moore in a move that should give them the benefit of more depth.

Chicago also brought in tight end Robert Tonyan, who scored 11 touchdowns in 2020 while playing with Aaron Rodgers.

Now, it has added former Panthers running back D’Onta Foreman to what looks like a very team-friendly contract.

Foreman, a third-round draft pick in 2017, had a relatively quiet first four seasons in the NFL, but in 2022 he started to take off.

After the Panthers traded star running back Christian McCaffrey in October, Foreman became very productive and finished the season with 914 yards and five touchdowns.

Almost all of that production came after McCaffrey was sent to the San Francisco 49ers.

Foreman will be able to take some pressure off Fields and help open up the passing game a bit, as well as give the Bears a formidable one-two punch in their running game.

In 2022, it was Fields, who ran for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns, and tailback David Montgomery who helped the team finish first in rushing yards.

With Montgomery headed to the Detroit Lions, Foreman will help keep opposing front sevens very busy trying to contain both him and Fields.
