After losing starting defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to the San Francisco 49ers, the Philadelphia Eagles have managed to retain a few other key players on the defensive side of the football.

They got cornerback James Bradberry to agree to a three-year deal, and now, fellow starting corner Darius Slay is getting a two-year extension.

That extension will be worth $42 million, and some fans feel the Eagles overpaid to keep him in the fold.

However, this fan pointed out that the Eagles will actually save money with this deal.

Slay, along with Bradberry, helped Philly finish No. 1 in passing yards allowed this past season, which was a strength that helped carry them to the brink of a Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Mississippi State University product made the Pro Bowl in 2022 for the fifth time in the last six seasons by posting 14 passes defended and three interceptions.

There may be a little more pressure on Slay, as well as the rest of the team’s defense, to do lots of heavy lifting after the loss of star running back Miles Sanders, who is heading to the Carolina Panthers.

That loss will greatly weaken an Eagles running attack that was fifth in yards and first in touchdowns this past season.

In Philly, a city that saw its pro baseball team lose in the World Series several months ago and has seen its NBA team fail to reach the Eastern Conference Finals despite plenty of talent, anything short of a world championship is considered unacceptable these days.

The Eagles won the Super Bowl just five years ago, and it looks like they missed a golden opportunity in February’s big game versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
