Rockies Acquire Pitching Prospect From The Red Sox

The Colorado Rockies made a trade with the Boston Red Sox this afternoon, as Boston sent its No. 21 prospect in pitcher Connor Seabold over to Colorado.

Seabold, 26, has appeared in just six games at the Major League level, going 0-4 with an 11.29 ERA in those appearances, all of which were starts.

The right-hander made his debut with the Red Sox in 2021.

In exchange for Seabold, the Red Sox will acquire either cash considerations or a player to be named later.

On Twitter, MLB Pipeline provided the news and the details of the recent trade between the Red Sox and the Rockies.

The Rockies have acquired Red Sox No. 21 prospect Connor Seabold in exchange for a PTBNL or cash considerations.

Seabold never got much of a chance at the Major League level with the Red Sox, but was the No. 21 prospect within their pipeline prior to the trade.

With the Rockies, he might get a chance to crack their starting rotation if all goes according to plan.

The 26-year-old is still rookie eligible and is not a free agent until after the 2029 season.

But he might have a better chance to prove himself in Colorado.

With Chris Sale, James Paxton, Corey Kluber, Nick Pivetta, and Garrett Whitlock filling out Boston’s rotation, there wasn’t a clear path for the right-hander.

The Rockies, on the other hand, only have three guaranteed starters for 2023, those being Kyle Freeland, German Marquez, and Jose Urena.

With Antonio Senzatela out recovering from knee surgery, Seabold and Austin Gomber will have a chance to battle for the fifth rotation spot.

The trade comes just mere days after Boston had designated Seabold for assignment.
