The Chicago Cubs have done their share of signings and trades during the MLB offseason.

With the team picking up several major players, it seems they are gearing up for a winning season in 2023.

However, they are still missing some players in key positions.

One of these positions the Cubs were looking to upgrade was at third base.

With Rafael Devers signing an 11-year deal with the Boston Red Sox, their biggest target is off the table.

But there is another third baseman the Cubs could pursue before the 2023 season begins.

This player is Matt Chapman from the Toronto Blue Jays.

However, should the team go after him, or stick with what they have in Chicago?

Pros And Cons Of A Chapman Trade

Before any trade deal for Chapman should be made, the Cubs need to weigh the pros and cons of adding him to their roster.

If the Cubs want to take a route of becoming a defensive juggernaut, trading for the Blue Jays third baseman makes sense.

Chapman has won three Gold Gloves, two Platinum Gloves, and two Fielding Bible Awards.

He even won the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award during his 2018 season.

When he went to Toronto, many believed him to be the best third baseman for the Blue Jays since Scott Rolen.

However, what he has on defense, he lacks on offense.

His batting average has been on a downtrend since his career high in 2018.

With a .229 average for 2022, the Cubs would take a hit on offense by getting him.

However, his defense can easily make up for this flaw, making a trade worthwhile.
