Former NFL head coach Sean Payton is on plenty of people’s radar for making a head coaching return.

However, that return in 2023 will come at a price to anyone wanting him.

But that might not stop some team from paying a king’s ransom for his services.

So with him coming at a high price, what two NFL teams are the most likely landing spot for Payton in 2023?

2. Carolina Panthers

When the Carolina Panthers fired Matt Rhule earlier this season, Sean Payton made his thoughts known about the job out there.

He called the job “attractive,” despite not having a quarterback who’s a success story.

While Payton sees the job as “almost a unicorn,” getting him in Carolina will take the team paying the New Orleans Saints for his contract.

With the Saints holding all the cards, it might not be up to Payton which team he coaches in 2023.

However, the comments Payton has made about the Panthers’ job mean he could be interested in the job.

1. New Orleans Saints

While Sean Payton retired from the New Orleans Saints job, he might return to his old team.

They already have him under contract until 2024, meaning they can easily have him back as their coach.

However, this requires the Saints to give him an attractive team in New Orleans to lure him back.

While the team isn’t heading in the right direction this season, 2023 might promise more for the Saints.

With the NFC South already looking horrible, and Tom Brady possibly out in 2023, it gives the Saints a better chance to win their division next year.

This might be enough to lure Payton back.
