2023 Will Be The Year Of Louisiana Grassroots Activism
With 2023 only weeks away, I wanted to make an announcement for the upcoming year:
2023 is poised to become the year of Grassroots political activism in Louisiana.
Why do I say that? For starters, several conservative grassroots groups have made a sizable impact on Louisiana in 2022.
Here are some examples of what Grassroots groups accomplished in 2022:
The Bayou Mama Bears played a pivotal role in ending Mayor Cantrell’s inane COVID mandates in New Orleans at the beginning of this year. Additionally, the Bayou Mama Bears teamed up with Attorney General Jeff Landry to end the COVID vaccine mandates for schoolchildren in Louisiana. Their efforts pushed the Louisiana Department of Health to repeal this mandate.
The Home Defense Fund (HDL) in the New Orleans area started a recall petition of State Representative Joe Stagni after he voted against banning Transgenders from competing in Women’s sports. The HDL’s recall effort essentially pushed Stagni to change his vote in 2022 when the issue came up again in the 2022 legislative session.
Citizens for a New Louisiana has pushed back against the inappropriate, erotic content located in the children’s section of Public Libraries in Livingston and Lafayette. Moreover, this organization writes extensively on the poor use of taxpayer dollars by unaccountable local governments.
Turning Point USA chapters at various Louisiana universities—including LSU, UL-Lafayette, LA Tech, and Tulane—have hosted activism events and speaking engagements to promote the Conservative message on hostile college campuses.
All throughout Louisiana in 2022, ordinary Louisianans began standing up to the state’s do-nothing political establishment through grassroots activism.
While solid progress was made in 2022 by grassroots groups, 2023 offers even more potential to further promote traditionally Conservative values and policy positions in Louisiana.
As we all know, state-wide, legislative, and local elections are on the horizon in Fall 2023. These elections provide Grassroots groups with a golden opportunity to help elect grassroots Conservative candidates to public office in the State Legislature or in local government.
Too many incumbent legislators failed to promote the interests of their Conservative constituents for the past few years—such as during the COVID lockdowns or the failed veto override session in 2021. Fortunately, grassroots groups and campaigns in 2023 offer a chance to finally hold our elected officials accountable for these constant failures.
The changing elements in the political landscape—especially social media—offer grassroot groups more opportunity to influence and impact the voters than in past times. The 8000+ Instagram followers on the Bayou Mama Bear’s Instagram account are more likely to make impressions on Louisiana citizens compared to dying Legacy media outlets—including newspapers and local news channels. Grassroots groups themselves realize that social media and on-the-ground campaigns can make a significant impact in 2023, so we should definitely keep an eye out for what different Grassroots groups are looking to accomplish in 2023.
In closing, we need to recognize the reality of our situation in Louisiana:
No one is going to save us.
Your local GOP group won’t save you; policy wonks in think tanks won’t save you; your elected officials won’t save you. The onus is on you and me to help authentic Conservatives run for office and win in 2023.
Let this article serve as warning to all the RINO and Establishment politicians who think they have an easy path to reelection in October 2023. Just remember that I warned you when you suddenly find yourself facing a formidable grassroots candidate next Fall.
