The Philadelphia Phillies are looking forward to another successful season in 2023.

After winning the NL Pennant last season, the Phillies re-loaded during the offseason.

They have already signed Trea Turner, Taijuan Walker, and Craig Kimbrel in free agency.

While all of those players will help, there are a few that were already on the roster who must play better in 2023.

Here are two Phillies who must step up next season.

Nick Castellanos

One of the more disappointing hitters on the Phillies last season was Nick Castellanos.

Castellanos was one of the Phillies’ big signings before last season but struggled at the plate.

He hit a .263 with only 13 home runs and 62 RBIs in 136 games last season.

The Phillies will need much more production from Castellanos next season, especially with Bryce Harper out for the first few months.

Castellanos leaves a lot to be desired in the outfield as well, so he needs to produce at the plate to be valuable.

Bryson Stott

The addition of Trea Turner means Bryson Stott will be moved over to second base next season.

Last season Stott started slow, but that was to be expected for a rookie making his MLB debut.

Stott played nine games in AAA last season before playing 127 with the Phillies.

In those games, Stott hit .234 with 10 home runs, 49 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases.

Stott struggled mightily in the postseason though.

Where he hit only .136 and had three RBIs in 16 playoff games.

Although he was good for a few clutch hits when the Phillies needed him.

Set to play his first full season in the MLB, Stott must step up in 2023.
