2 Moves The Seattle Mariners Need To Make This Offseason

The Seattle Mariners ended their long playoff drought last season, now they are looking for a lengthy playoff run next season.

Free agency will be a vital time for them to be able to improve their roster.

They have already used the offseason to acquire slugger Teoscar Hernandez from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Now they need to sign a few more pieces to sure up a few holes.

Here are two moves the Mariners need to make this offseason.

Sign A Middle Infielder

The Mariners have a cluster of players on their roster who can play multiple spots.

That helps them for platooning players and ride the hot hand in the lineup.

But, they could use a designated middle infielder this off-season.

After the star shortstops (Carlos Correa, Trea Turner, Dansby Swanson, Xander Bogaerts) are off the board, Seattle should be ready to strike.

The #Mariners have checked in on Trea Turner, Kolton Wong, Gleyber Torres and all the other free agent middle infielders. Jerry Dipoto President made it clear that their ownership will provide the resources to sign one of the big free agent middle infielders if it makes sense.

Some of the names that should interest them are Jean Segura, Josh Harrison, and Adam Frazier.

Adding a quality middle-infielder should be a priority for Seattle.

Add Bullpen Help

One reason the Mariners’ season ended in the ALDS was because of their lack of bullpen options.

They did not have enough quality arms in their bullpen to match the Houston Astros.

Now if they want to compete with the defending champions this next season, Seattle will need a few good relievers.

The best closer available is Kenley Jansen.

But, if he is outside their price range then Taylor Rodgers, Michael Fulmer, or even Craig Kimbrel could make sense.

Ultimately, the Mariners need to add an established arm to their ‘pen, and they should be active in that market.
