2 Changes The Miami Heat Need To Make

On Friday, the Miami Heat overcame an early deficit to defeat the Washington Wizards, 110-107.

The Wizards have been surprisingly competitive this season, and it was definitely a good win for Miami.

However, the team overall is just 9-11, and it looks like a far cry from the team that came within a few points of a second NBA Finals appearance in three years last season.

The Heat’s defense has improved, but offense is still a problem, as it is one of the league’s least efficient and lowest-scoring teams.

They have multiple holes, and it looks like a trade or two will be necessary to get them over the hump and back into the championship series.

What are the biggest changes or improvements that need to be made?

Backcourt Firepower

Other than Tyler Herro, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year who is now a starter, Miami has a lack of offense among its guards.

Kyle Lowry, its other starting guard, is aging and is shooting under 40 percent from the field, and none of its other backcourt players are averaging double figures in scoring.

Over the last three years, the Heat have often gotten off to slow starts because of their sometimes anemic offense, which has put too much pressure on them to expend lots of energy simply to give themselves a chance to win in crunch time.

Power Forward Depth

Overall, Miami is a small team, as it lacks any viable power forwards with legitimate power forward size, other than perhaps rookie Nikola Jovic, who has been struggling.

In order to defeat teams such as the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks come playoff time, it will need one or two power forwards with size to help Bam Adebayo hold down the frontcourt.
