Red Sox Analyst Remembers A Key World Series Moment

2013 was the last time that the two teams with the best records in baseball met in the World Series.

That year, it was a highly-anticipated matchup between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals

In Game 4 of the series, it appeared that the momentum had swung in the direction of the Cardinals.

After a blowout win in Game 1, Boston’s bats had gone quiet and they had fallen into a 2-1 hole.

However, with Game 4 tied at a run apiece, David Ortiz held a meeting with his teammates and did what he could to light a fire under them.

Fortunately for the Sox, it worked out and shortly thereafter, Jonny Gomes hit a towering three-run home run to put the Red Sox ahead and spark a three-game winning streak that would secure the series for them.

At the time, it appeared that the Cardinals had all the momentum necessary to defeat the Red Sox.

But in a matter of minutes, that all changed.

The Red Sox heated up at just the right time and responded favorably to Ortiz’s pep talk.

From then on, Boston held all the cards and would go on to win Game 4.

They then took Game 5 and sent Cardinals fans home unhappy for the last time, setting up a potential clincher at home in Game 6.

The Red Sox jumped on Michael Wacha early and the Cardinals never caught up, with Boston winning the game 6-1 and securing their third World Series title since breaking the “Curse of the Bambino” in 2004.
