Comedian and Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson is as famous for his numerous quirky tattoos (up until recently, he sported around 200) as he is for his high-profile dating history (the 31-year-old star of Dog Man has been linked with Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, and Margaret Qualley). But as the star of Reformation’s new Valentine’s Day campaign, Davidson is both solo and tattoo-free.
Bestowed the title of Reformation’s “Official Boyfriend,” Davidson poses in a series of photos featuring the clothing brand’s newly launched, limited-edition boxer briefs and crewneck sweatshirt. In one of the ads, Davidson can be seen lounging shirtless in a pair of chinos with the band of his underwear just perfectly peeking through. No tattoo in sight.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Davidson told Jimmy Fallon that he has embarked on a painful, years-long tattoo-removal journey. “I’ve been burning them off,” he said. “They’re almost gone.”
Asked by Fallon if the process was painful, he went straight to the point: “It’s horrible,” Davidson shared. “Worse than getting [the tattoos in the first place].”
Some of Davidson’s previous ink included tattoos dedicated to past girlfriends, as well as pieces celebrating SpongeBob SquarePants, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and even Hillary Clinton, according to USA Today.
In a May 2021 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Davidson said he decided to get all his tattoos removed for the sake of his career. “I honestly never thought that I would get the opportunity to act and I love it a lot,” he said. “You have to get there three hours earlier to cover all your tattoos, because for some reason, people in movies, they don’t have that much.”
And although he has reportedly spent $200,000 on his tattoo removal, Davidson seems happy with the results — and he’s not the only one.
“We got a boyfriend. And not just any boyfriend. The boyfriend. Pete Davidson, the go-to complement to beautiful and talented women everywhere,” Reformation announced on their website touting the new campaign and partnership.
Reformation also released a video, directed by Matthew Frost, in which Davidson talks about being the “perfect boyfriend” by making sure he is “focused, present, and in the moment.” In the hilarious three-minute clip, he also demonstrates other surefire ways to achieve ultimate-BF status, including “writing a letter about his feelings,” offering to cook his girlfriend dinner, and preparing a “hot-water bottle for when her tummy hurts.”
Reformation’s new line of comfy-but-sexy basics follows the brand’s recent forays into various product categories. In March 2024, they launched a sustainable swimwear line, and in May, they announced a collection of eyewear in collaboration with French optician Jimmy Fairly.
