On April 19, 1992 in Zachary, Louisiana, one block from where Connie Warner lived, a little boy was found wandering in his front yard by a neighbor. She called the police department because she was concerned, and they did a welfare check on the boy’s mother. Inside, they found a “horrific scene.”

On Aug. 24, 1992 in Zachary, Louisiana, Tracy Warner Bryan calls her mother, Connie Warner, who does not answer the phone. Concerned, Tracy calls her grandfather to meet her at her mother’s home. When they arrived, Tracy said she “just felt like the house was just not right.”

Both women were single mothers who disappeared from their homes just a block apart. In both cases, the victims’ keys were missing from the crime scenes. Were they committed by the same killer?

Derrick Todd Lee Was A Peeping Tom
Before her disappearance, serial killer victim Connie Warner had witnessed a peeping Tom lurking outside of her home. Her daughter, Tracy Bryan, and her high school boyfriend also recalled seeing the same man. His description matched that of Derrick Todd Lee, who became known as The Baton Rouge Serial Killer.

‘Baton Rouge Serial Killer’ Dies From Heart Disease
Derrick Todd Lee, who became known as The Baton Rouge Serial Killer, murdered seven women between 1992 and 2003. Lee was sentenced to death by lethal injection in December 2004. He would spend the rest of his days on death row at the maximum-security Louisiana State Prison in Angola before his death from heart disease in 2016.  

DNA Ties Derrick Todd Lee To ‘Baton Rouge Serial Killer’ Case
With a lack of convincing evidence, it took years before investigators could charge Derrick Todd Lee, who became known as The Baton Rouge Serial Killer, with multiple murders in Zachary, Louisiana. With the help of advancing DNA technology, authorities were able to obtain the proof they needed to charge him.
