Jameson Taillon Took Part In A Special Cubs Moment
The Chicago Cubs’ catching depth is not in a particularly good place at the moment with Yan Gomes being evaluated for a head injury.
That’s why the organization called up Miguel Amaya from Double-A to make his debut on Thursday.
The game resulted in a loss against the Washington Nationals, but Amaya can now say he has played in the major leagues.
The rookie went 0-for-2 with an RBI, batting from the ninth spot.
He also caught the entire game, and Cubs starter Jameson Taillon made sure he had something to remember from his first game in MLB.

Taillon is a class act.
He kept the ball himself, looked for Amaya, found him, and delivered the ball.
A grateful Amaya appreciated the gesture.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Amaya, but there is no question he is a talented young player.
In 56 Double-A plate appearances, he is hitting .273/.411/.659 with four home runs.
He is also considered one of the Cubs’ top prospects.
It’s likely that he needs a bit more time in the minors, particularly in Triple-A.
However, Thursday is a likely a day he will never forget.
Taillon helped ensure that doesn’t happen, as Amaya will keep the ball as a nice souvenir for his entire life.
The Cubs have a good catching tandem in Gomes and Tucker Barnhart, but Amaya is next in line in the organization and has the talent to be considered the Cubs’ catcher of the future.
Even if he doesn’t stick in the majors this time, he will be a fixture in the team’s future.
