It’s no secret that Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons has had a difficult 2022-23 season.

The 26-year-old has looked like a shell of his best self, and fans haven’t been easy on him.

While many have already lost hope for Simmons, his latest update on his health may offer a partial explanation for his underwhelming play this season.

According to the three-time All-Star himself, he hasn’t been at 100 percent all year.

Simmons is currently dealing with a knee issue, the latest chapter of his frustrating 2022-23 campaign.

The former No. 1 overall pick has had flashes of brilliance this season, like when he averaged 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game while shooting a whopping 82.0 percent from the field over a six-game span in November.

But overall, he has played with a major lack of aggression, especially lately.

Over his last six games, he’s averaging just 3.2 shots per game, and on the season, he’s averaging 5.6 shots per game.

Simmons is averaging 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game in the 2022-23 campaign.

His lack of aggression may very well be tied to his injury woes, and if that’s the case, that’s probably good news for his trajectory, as it could mean that he’ll become more aggressive once he’s finally at 100 percent.

But for now, the former Rookie of the Year is a major question mark for a Nets team that is suddenly in rebuilding mode.

Brooklyn is 34-25 on the season and currently holds the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.

The team is looking to sneak into the playoffs despite losing some huge pieces at the 2023 trade deadline.
