The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Atlantic City, in effect from 1 pm Sunday through 6 pm Monday. Calling it a “potentially historic winter storm,” the NWS is forecasting total snow accumulations between 15 and 24 inches. However, if the storm moves ever so slightly westward, those amounts could rise.

Winds are projected to gust as high as 60 mph, creating whiteout conditions.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage and result in scattered power outages,” the NWS advised.

With travel advisories up and down the Garden State and into Philadelphia, many millions of people will hunker down to ride out the storm. For the gambler, there is perhaps no better place to be locked in than down the New Jersey shore in one of the nine casinos.

Atlantic City Emergency Order

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small has declared a State of Emergency in Atlantic City. The order means vehicles must not be parked on snow emergency routes.

The New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has authorized free parking at the Wave Parking Garage (corner of Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues) and at the Showboat Hotel along the Boardwalk.

The complimentary parking accommodations are to allow residents and visitors to adhere to parking restrictions on snow emergency routes that include Atlantic Ave., Martin Luther King Blvd., Ohio Ave., Indiana Ave., Melrose Ave., Arctic Ave., Fairmount Ave., and Baltic Ave. Vehicles parked along those roads after today at 4 pm are subject to towing.

Casinos Remain Open

Atlantic City casinos are built to sustain powerful storms, from hurricanes to blizzards. The nine properties are prepped to remain open during the Sunday through Monday snowfall, with gaming and most resort operations operating as normal.

The thought of being snowed in at a casino resort is most appealing to many gamblers. If you’re thinking of making a snow day at one of the nine Atlantic City casinos, local officials advise that you go there now and check in for stays through at least Tuesday.

The City of Atlantic City writes on X that the public, come Sunday afternoon, should “stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.”

Room rates are cheap for Sunday through Tuesday stays.

Ocean Casino Resort is $135 a night, Borgata’s MGM Tower is $119, and Hard Rock is $113. Caesars is $155, Resorts is $108, Golden Nugget is $81, Tropicana is $71, and Harrah’s and Bally’s are $70.

The rates are inclusive of resort fees but are before taxes.
