I recently decided to have a conversation with ChatGPT about money. This AI language learning model is making headlines, and I was curious about what it might say. It gave me a lot of food for thought. However, what I thought about was not exactly about money. Instead, it got me wondering about whether this tool is going to take over my job as a freelance writer.

What is ChatGPT?

In case you’re not familiar with it, ChatGPT is a chatbot system. It uses artificial intelligence to have a conversation with you over text chat. It’s similar to a search engine in that it answers your questions or helps you to find information. However, it’s different in that it’s supposed to be more conversational. 

AI and Freelance Writing

I have worked as a freelance writer for nearing two decades. In that time, I’ve contributed thousands and thousands of articles to blogs and websites all across the Internet. I’ve tried to write unique, original articles that provide something of value to the people who read them.

However, I’ve also written plenty of generic articles over the years, trying to get the bills paid through these gigs. And now, all of that content, and all of the content of the thousands of other freelance writers like me, has helped teach computers about the most common answers to the questions that people type into search engines. And that, in turn, has helped lead to the creation of AI chat systems that can generate those answers much more rapidly than a human can type. 

Does this mean that AI will soon take over freelance writing jobs? I asked ChatGPT about that too …

A Conversation with ChatGPT About Money

I started off asking the tool some very simple questions about money. How do you make it? How do you earn it? It quickly generated responses, providing tips that answered my questions. This was how I saw that it easily creates generic articles that are nevertheless somewhat helpful for basic questions. Then, as you’ll see from the conversation below, I asked it some more personal, conversational things about all of this. Here’s that conversation; the questions are what I asked and all of the rest was what ChatGPT typed out for me.

How can I make more money?
