Twins Insider Endorses A Carlos Correa Return

Carlos Correa is one of four premier shortstops available in free agency.

The 28-year-old signed with the Minnesota Twins last winter on a three-year, $105.3 million contract that included opt-out clauses after each of the first two seasons.

Correa ultimately opted out after year one, seeking a larger deal, but a return to the Twins is not out of the realm of possibility.

One Twins insider fully endorsed the idea of bringing back the former World Series champion, stressing that the Twins have the money to pull it off, a front office that is motivated to win, and one that also has a strong relationship with the star shortstop.

Twins have clean books, motivated ownership and a strong relationship with Carlos Correa.

The Case For Keeping Correa

Correa had a solid first season in Minnesota.

The two-time All-Star hit for a .291 average and popped 22 home runs, driving in 64 runs, tallying 47 extra-base hits and logging 244 total bases.

Re-signing Correa would be a win-now move for a team that has fallen short of the postseason in back-to-back years.

The Twins finished in third place in the American League Central division with a 78-84 record, 14 games back of the division champion Cleveland Guardians, a team they led in the division for much of the season.

Having Correa back would give the Twins a chance to build a contending ballclub and finally reach the postseason again.

The team already has Byron Buxton, Gary Sanchez, Jorge Polanco, and Luis Arraez in its lineup.

Retaining the 2017 World Series champion would be a morale boost for a team that suffered an epic collapse late in the season.
