Target Holiday Schedule 2023 and Store Hours
One of the more frustrating things about stores like Target is they don’t publish a holiday schedule of when stores are open and closed. For those who have to make a quick trip to the store for whatever reason on a holiday, not knowing if the store will be open when they arrive can be maddening.
To further complicate things, federal holidays aren’t necessarily the same as store holidays. Target corporate chooses whether they are open or closed on each holiday. If you’re wondering which days Target stores are open and when they will be closed, here’s the Target holiday schedule and store hours.

Prior to 2020, there were only two days of the year when Target closed its doors — Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. However, the retailer decided to close on Thanksgiving for the first time in 2020 to help reduce the post-holiday shopping rush during the pandemic. Customers responded so positively to this change that Target decided to shut its doors again on Thanksgiving 2021. The store will resume its normal hours the following day on Black Friday, so luckily you’ll still be able to kick off your Christmas shopping at Target.
Target is open the other 362 days of the year, although there are days when hours will vary from the typical store schedule. For example, the retailer extended its hours till midnight in the days leading up to Christmas last year, and may do so again in 2021.
Target also has limited hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve this year. On Christmas Eve, the majority of Target locations will close at 8 pm instead of staying open until 10 pm like usual. Additionally, most stores will shut down early on New Year’s Eve at 9 pm. As always, make sure you check your local store’s hours using the store location tool before you go so you don’t waste a trip.

Target doesn’t have a set store hour schedule which applies to all of its stores. The actual hours of a Target store may vary from location to location. Target does have some 24 hour a day locations, but most stores have a closing time each day.
Weekday hours and weekend hours may be different depending on the location. Certain services within the store like Starbucks and the pharmacy counter may also follow a different schedule or close earlier than the rest of the store.
The best way to find out the hours of your local Target is to go to their store location tool. When you find the store near you, you can see their hours of operation.
Although store hours may vary by location, you can usually expect your local Target to be open Monday through Sunday from 7:00 am until 10:00 pm. However, some stores open later at 8 am or 9 am or close earlier at 6 pm or 9 pm. Stores in larger cities usually have slightly longer hours, while stores in smaller towns may have slightly shortened hours, which is something to be aware of.
The above holiday schedule includes Target stores’ planned closures. There can also be incidents which force the closure of a store, such as damage, severe weather, or theft. For example, most Target locations in San Fransisco shortened their hours and started closing at 6 pm back in July due to a sharp increase in shoplifting. If you have any doubt about whether or not a location will be open, or what their store hours are, it’s best to call to confirm.
