Being the son of a former NFL star sure grants you plenty of attention, but the rest will be on you to prove that you’re also worthy of a spot in the league.

That’s the case with Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr., one of the most promising cornerbacks in this year’s rather unimpressive NFL Draft.

Currently ranked as the 12th-best player in the class of 2023, Porter recently claimed that he expects to be the first player in his position taken off the board, stating that he’s the best corner in the nation right now, according to a report by Aaron Wilson.

That’s a bit of a bold claim, considering other elite CB prospects like Devon Witherspoon and Christian Gonzalez have also gotten plenty of praise from NFL scouts all over the league.

The 6’2” specimen was a second-team All-American last season, and he’s the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers superstar Joey Porter.

He’s coming off an outstanding season with 11 passes defended and one fumble recovery, and even though he failed to log a pick all year, he allowed just one completion of more than 15 yards all year.

Porter Jr’s entire life has revolved around football.

He grew up in the Steelers’ facility, and has vowed to make a living out of this game, just like his old man did throughout this 13-year career in the National Football League.

He’s an elite athlete and kept making strides and improving every single year in college, so it wouldn’t be crazy to see him actually be the first CB off the board come April 28th.
