Avid Shohei Ohtani fans are probably familiarized with almost every one of his stats and accomplishments at the MLB level.

Yet you probably haven’t heard or read about what looks like the most amazing Ohtani stat you will ever see.

Not only does the Los Angeles Angels star gets excellent results of his at-bats with runners in scoring position when it comes to slugging percentage, but he is also very stingy when he is on the mound and has people on the basepaths looking to score.

“Highest slugging percentage with RISP, last 50 years: .621 Shohei Ohtani; .616 Mike Trout; .615 Mark McGwire. Lowest SLG percentage allowed with RISP, last 50 years: .201 Shohei Ohtani; .211 Dellin Betances; .226 Aroldis Chapman (min. 400 PA / 200 BF),” baseball stats guru Jeremy Frank tweeted.

That’s an incredible stat.

Ohtani Is Historically Great

In the last 50 years, nobody beats Ohtani’s slugging ability with runners on second and third.

Oh, and if that weren’t enough, no pitcher has allowed a lower slugging percentage with RISP in the last 50 years, and that includes relievers.

You probably know top relievers are nasty: for example, Betances was perhaps the best and most consistent bullpen arms in the league from 2014 to 2018.

Ohtani, however, has allowed a lower slugging percentage with runners on the verge of scoring.

His dominance is reaching new levels: it’s incredible.

He is the face of baseball for a reason: nobody can do what he does.

Nobody is capable of being a top-10 pitcher and a top-15 hitter: those are two incredibly specialized activities that require years of training to be among the best.

And he makes it all look so easy.

He’s the guy on the cover of video games for a reason: there is no cooler baseball player than Shohei Ohtani.
