SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EARL MARTIN FOR HOSTING THIS EPISODE

Certified as the largest crawfish boil in the world, the San Diego Crawfish Boil will import 25,000 pounds of fresh, live crawfish straight from the suburbs of Lafayette, Louisiana, to be cooked on site at bayside Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego. Not into sucking on crawfish? The event also has many other food vendors ready to sell traditional Cajun and creole favorites. Presented by Raisin’ Canes Chicken and the LSU Alumni Chapter of San Diego, the all-inclusive event also features live entertainment, including performances by New Orleans’ Cowboy Mouth and San Diego’s own Theo & The Zydeco Patrol.

What Is a Crawfish Boil?

Crawfish boils are a time-honored culinary tradition that is prominent in the South. People gather during crawfish season to indulge in pounds upon pounds of delicious crawfish. Now, the name “crawfish boil” might be a little misleading as other food items are served as well. Traditional crawfish boils feature cooked potatoes, corn, garlic, and andouille sausages, along with high-quality, fresh crawfish.

Cajun food is robust, rustic food, found along the bayous of Louisiana, a combination of French and Southern cuisines. It was brought to Louisiana from the French who migrated to the state from Nova Scotia 250 years ago and used foods, right from the land.
