Rob Thomson has taken the Philadelphia Phillies and transformed them into a team that has done a lot of damage as an underdog this October.

Philadelphia was 22-29 when they dismissed manager Joe Girardi and promoted Thomson to the managerial role.

Since then, the Phils have been a different team and have overcome incredible odds to get to the World Series.

Thomson spent several years in the New York Yankees organization, and Derek Jeter was on hand at Citizens Bank Park to support Thomson.

Jeter shared that he was happy for Thomson to accomplish the incredible feat of turning the Phils into a World Series team, but also noted that Thomson won’t be satisfied until he and the Phillies pull off a championship.

Jeter Praises Thomson

Down 3-2 in the World Series, the Phillies are two wins away from making that happen, but will have to win two elimination games on the road in order to accomplish their goals.

Jeter spent several years playing with Thomson during his time with the Yankees and knows what Thomson’s goals are.

The Phillies have accomplished a lot in such a short amount of time.

Philadelphia barely snuck in as the third NL Wild Card team, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round before matching up with the Atlanta Braves.

The Phils unseated the defending World Series champions and manhandled the San Diego Padres, defeating them in five games in the NLCS.

The Phillies went from looking like a borderline .500 team to a championship contender in a matter of months thanks to Thomson.

They’ll have Zack Wheeler on the mound for Game 6.
