2018 Louisiana Teacher of the Year Kimberly Eckert talks about the importance of making children feel like they have “a voice and a choice in their learning, so that they are using education to be able to advocate for themselves.” Students should have agency over their own learning, she says, so they can feel empowered and figure out which tools they need to achieve their goals and change the world.
