This time period was supposed to be an era of rebirth and unparalleled success for the Brooklyn Nets.

Now it’s on the verge of being an era of missed chances and unmet expectations.

That’s because the latest rumors say that Kyrie Irving is ready to ditch his team, seemingly in favor of joining his old friend LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers.

But it gets even worse than that for the Nets.

Apparently, Kevin Durant is now re-thinking his future with the Nets amidst the Irving drama.

Sources say Durant is really unhappy with how the team has mishandled Irving and his happiness on the squad.

We’re not sure if he’s looking to leave but he’s seemingly concerned about the team and that leaves the door open for him to also leave in the future.

If that happens, the Nets will have transformed within a year from a team led by James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving to a squad led by…Ben Simmons.

Oh boy.

Simmons To The Rescue

When Simmons was traded to the Nets for Harden, it looked like the future for the team was very bright.

The idea of Simmons playing alongside Durant and Irving was ultra-promising and had fans thinking the Finals were well within reach.

However, so far the trio hasn’t even played together due to a nagging Simmons injury.

There is a strong, growing chance that Simmons, Durant, and Irving will never play as a unit.

And if Durant ends up exiting stage left, Simmons will be the biggest star on the team.

As we have seen, he doesn’t always respond well to the pressure of the spotlight.

Fans of the Nets are very uneasy right now for a lot of reasons – Simmons’ leadership is just one of them.
