The Pittsburgh Pirates do not have high expectations for the 2023 season.

They are in the middle of a major rebuild and are looking to develop their young players.

One major contributor on the Pirates roster is outfielder Bryan Reynolds.

He has been their best player over the past two seasons and even finished 11th in NL MVP voting in 2021.

Reynolds is 28 years old, and still in the prime of his career.

The Pirates are hoping to keep him in Pittsburgh for a very long time.

Many talks this offseason were about a potential trade of Reynolds.

There is a possibility that he could be moved to a contending team and the Pirates could land some top prospects in return.

But, that no longer seems to be the case.

According to Mark Feinsand, the Pirates and Reynolds were close to an agreement on a long-term deal.

Surprisingly, Reynolds would want to stay in Pittsburgh with their bleak outlook.

But, the Pirates are the only major league team he has been with.

If the two sides can work out the opt-out clause you can expect to see Reynolds in Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future.

Expect the switch hitter to have another productive season for the Pirates, with his well-earned extension on the way.

If the two sides can’t come to an agreement, this may be the final straw before a trade is necessary.
