Max Scherzer Is Taking Care Of His Current Minor League Teammates
Max Scherzer is towards the end of his rehab assignment and appears to be close to returning from an oblique injury he suffered while facing the St. Louis Cardinals.
But the New York Mets ace is still displaying qualities of a solid veteran down in the minors.
Scherzer got the start for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the double-A affiliate of the Mets and went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned.
But after the game, Scherzer made sure to treat his teammates to some healthy snacks and mentioned in his postgame interview that they were “eating well” after the game was over.

They’re Eating Well
This is a classy move by Scherzer.
We always think of him as a guy with killer instincts while he’s pitching.
But outside of that, he truly has a big heart and did the right thing by treating his teammates to some good food.
Granted, minor leaguers aren’t paid a whole lot, and some aren’t able to afford the more expensive foods.
But last night, Scherzer made sure that didn’t become a problem and did what a true veteran leader should always do, and that is to take care of the younger players.
Scherzer has been around for a long time and knows what it’s like to be a younger player without that much money, but here he is putting the extra money on his contract to good use in order to help out the minor leaguers.
Scherzer deserves credit for doing this.
We can only hope what he said about them eating well after the game was true.
But this was a nice show of good faith by Scherzer.
