The NHC said in their 4 a.m. advisory Friday they expect the system to approach the northern Gulf coast with a landfall in Louisiana likely on Sunday, the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The storm currently has maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour and is moving northwest at 15 mph.

“There is an increasing risk of life-threatening storm surge inundation along the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, where a Storm Surge Watch is in effect,” warns the National Hurricane Center.

The hurricane could be a Category 2 or 3 at landfall.
