Houston Astros star Jose Altuve may not be the tallest player in baseball – in fact, he may be one of the shortest – but he is sure showing he is the bigger man when it comes to handling a difficult situation.

Known, perhaps unfairly, as one of the centerpieces of the 2017 sign-stealing scandal involving the Astros, Altuve has been the target of some nasty criticism everywhere he goes because his team cheated.

Yankee Stadium is, of course, not an exception: New York Yankees fans have said some nasty things to Altuve and his family in the past five years.

But Altuve has handled the situation with maturity.

He has been spotted signing autographs to Yankees fans in the middle of a hotly contested series between the two teams this weekend.

Additionally, he has given away some pieces of equipment to Yankees fans.

“Batting practice scenes at Yankee Stadium: Jose Altuve just gave his batting gloves to a small child wearing a Derek Jeter jersey,” Astros’ reporter Chandler Rome tweeted on Friday.

Altuve Is Showing The Right Approach Regarding The Sign-Stealing Scandal

Several teammates have stated that Altuve didn’t take advantage of the trash can system back in 2017.

They said he got mad at them when they banged the trash can during one of his at-bats.

Clearly, he didn’t want to be part of it.

He has at least some responsibility for not coming clean at any point, but who can blame him for not throwing his teammates under the bus?

In any case, it’s probably time to move on from the scandal: it happened five years ago and the Astros, albeit light, got their punishment.

Altuve is doing his part.

Can the fans do the same?
