The Cleveland Guardians finished an impressive 2022 season that yielded an American League Division Series appearance and a playoff series victory, in the Wild Card round.

What happened before then was also worth celebrating: an AL Central title in a year in which most analysts didn’t give anything for them.

Defying expectations has been a common theme in Terry Francona‘s career.

Francona, the manager of the young Guardians, led the group to a 92-win season, an impressive tally after missing the postseason last year.

He is making sure to be around next season, too, because he wants to be a part of the next great Guardians team.

Guardians Players Have Energized Francona

“Terry Francona will return as the Guardians manager in 2023. He noted he’s thought more about when the end of his career could be this season, but said this group energized him this year. ‘I want to see that group grow. I want to be a part of that,’” Guardians insider Mandy Bell tweeted.

Those words are music to fans’ ears: everyone knows how hard it has been for Francona to stay strong through the years with many health issues, and knowing that his players injected life to him is incredibly wholesome.

The success of the franchise in 2022 goes well beyond wins and losses.

They are one of the youngest and most promising squads in baseball, with an incredible collection of young talent: Andres Gimenez, Triston McKenzie, Josh Naylor, Oscar Gonzalez, Steven Kwan, Owen Miller, Amed Rosario, Cal Quantrill, and many, many more; all led by Jose Ramirez and Shane Bieber.

Hopefully they can keep energizing Francona and he can remain in MLB for a few more years.
