Fans React To Today’s Matt Ryan Report
The past few years have been a bit of a rough ride for Matt Ryan.
After spending 15 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, finding mixed results, Ryan was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2022.
He started just 12 games with the Colts last year and was released shortly after the conclusion of the season.
However, Ryan recently announced that he would be an NFL analyst, joining the CBS team.
While this signaled to many that Ryan’s playing career was over, a recent radio interview called that belief into question.
“I’ve just learned, at least during my experience in the 15 years I’ve played, to just not shut any doors,” Ryan said.
Former #Falcons and #Colts QB Matt Ryan to @SiriusXMNFL on possible return: “All the stars would have to (align). I’ve just learned, at least during my experience in the 15 years I’ve played, to just not shut any doors.”

This statement was a surprise to many fans across the league, who posted various reactions.
What he really means: I’m not giving up my $12 million dollar a year NFL salary anytime soon.

Plus if he says “I’m retiring” then the Colts could recoup money he is owned this year.

He’s still “active” because if he retired the Colts would be off the hook to pay him the $12M for this year. I have no interest in listening to his “analysis”

As these three fans indicate, there’s some reading to be done between the lines.
While Ryan will likely not suit up for another team this season, if he announces retirement, the Colts don’t have to pay him a full salary.
By beginning a broadcasting gig, Ryan will not only be paid by CBS, but he’ll still get his check from the Colts as well.
Several fans seemed to understand what Ryan meant by these comments, but others expressed an interest in him joining their favorite team.
His best bet I would think is a mid season emergency replacement. Maybe a backup behind someone like Baker.

Next Tampa Bay QB

As these two fans indicate, he could either be a solid backup option or even take the starting job for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for example.
Either way, fans appear to be torn about Ryan’s announcement.
This is a developing story, and there are sure to be more updates, especially as the season gets closer.
