Last week, the Chicago Cubs and Trey Mancini agreed to terms on a two-year, $14 million contract.

The deal includes an opt-out clause after the 2023 season, which would allow the veteran slugger to re-enter the free agent market next offseason.

The 30-year-old spent the 2022 season with the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros.

For the first time in his career, Mancini won a World Series title.

Today, the signing of Mancini finally became official.

On Twitter, the Cubs announced the news of the deal becoming official and posted a cool graphic of Mancini, while also extending a nice welcome message to their new slugger.

Chicago has certainly been busy this offseason, and if all goes according to plan, they could potentially challenge the St. Louis Cardinals for the top spot in the National League Central.

They may not be the overwhelming favorites, but they managed to sign Cody Bellinger, Tucker Barnhart, Dansby Swanson, Eric Hosmer, and Jameson Taillon, despite not being able to re-sign Willson Contreras.

Contreras ultimately signed with the Cardinals.

But the Cubs have done a lot of work this offseason in order to strengthen their ballclub and take another shot at postseason contention.

Cubs fans are certainly excited about the moves the team has made.

The team also has proven its desire to win by making those moves.

Mancini can play in the outfield, at first base, and can serve as a designated hitter.

Most likely, he’ll split time at first base with Hosmer, creating an interesting platoon.
