Chet Holmgren Set A Record In His Summer League Debut

Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder was trying to make a statement on Tuesday night.

The big rookie played his first game for OKC in Utah for the NBA Summer League and he left a few jaws on the floor.

He was downright electric, with 23 points and the sort of energy and enthusiasm fans had been hoping for from the number two draft pick.

Chet Holmgren set the Utah Summer League record with 6 blocks in a game.

He was surprised that was the record and said he’s going to break his own record tomorrow night.

Holmgren actually broke a Summer League record and he wasn’t even that impressed.

He was informed that his six blocks in the game were historic and he was not just surprised but also ready to do more, saying he was planning to break his own record the next night.

That’s some confidence this young man has.

But can you blame him at this point?

High Hopes For Holmgren

Being picked so high in the draft can be both a blessing a curse.

It’s a blessing because obviously you get a lot of money, fame, and a chance to prove yourself.

But it’s also a curse because unless you perform terrifically, people will say you’re a busted pick and didn’t live up to your promise.

Holmgren wants to avoid that at all costs and he is obviously ready to show everyone just how smart a pick he was.

People expected a lot from him and he’s definitely attempting to deliver.

It is too soon to tell how he will pan out – this was just one Summer League game, after all – but Holmgren certainly showed fans something special on Tuesday night.

Plus, he made it clear that he’s not going to kick up his feet and slow down – he’s got more to prove.
