Calvin Mills Jr. Honored With Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award
Nexus Louisiana Leader Calvin Mills Jr. Earns Presidential Recognition
Calvin Mills Jr., interim CEO of Nexus Louisiana, has been honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to bettering his community and for dedicating his life to serving low-income, historically marginalized groups. Mills received the award during an evening ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023.
The lifetime achievement award marks a milestone in Mills’ career as an entrepreneur and philanthropist in the Louisiana community.
“I am truly honored and humbled to receive such a prestigious honor,” Mills says. “I’ve spent my life trying to be a great leader to my community, and I will continue to do so. I love creating an impact and changing people’s lives. I like to see people smile.”
The Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes leaders who have spent 5,000 or more hours making outstanding contributions to their community and who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service.
Mills feels excited to share his prestigious achievement with the NexusLA community.
“It’ll help bring a sense of recognition to the organization, to know that it has someone in the leadership role who is a proven leader,” he says.
Mills, the immediate past board chairperson of the Nexus Louisiana, also hopes his accomplishment inspires local founders.
“It’ll bring a sense of urgency and newfound energy to our founders here and in the community,” he says.
Mills has served as the management consultant of NexusLA since 2022 and served on the organization’s board of directors for ten years before that. He is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Southern University and A&M College.
