Bryce Harper May Be Able To Beat His Timeline

The Philadelphia Phillies‘ playoff hopes suffered a tough blow when it was revealed that its star, Bryce Harper, had a fractured thumb as a result of a hit by pitch on Sunday.

According to an MLB insider, the reigning MVP of the National League has already had surgery to repair the fractured and may be able to beat his timeline.

“Bryce Harper had surgery today to repair a fractured left thumb, and it went as planned, with no complications. Doctors are estimating he will miss 6-8 weeks but since he’s a fast healer he’s believed hoping it’ll be back sooner,” Jon Heyman of MLB Network and the New York Post tweeted.

Whether there is such a thing as a “fast healer” remains up for debate, especially since it’s not the same to recover from a fracture as from a muscle injury, but the Phillies are hoping Harper can beat the expected recovery timeframe.

Harper Is A Key Cog On The Phillies

Harper is perhaps the most important player to a specific team.

If we subtract Harper from the Phillies for an expected period of time, they may very well be a .500 team, perhaps worse.

Harper is the one that pushes them over the top and makes them, at least, playoff hopefuls.

That’s why the Phillies’ resolve will be tested for the next two months or so.

If Heyman’s prediction comes to fruition, perhaps he can be back in around a month to help the Phillies make a last push.

Right now, they are third in the NL East with a 39-37 record.

Harper is hitting .318/.385/.599 with 15 home runs and nine stolen bases.

He could have fought for a second consecutive MVP, but that’s highly unlikely to happen now.
