So far in the MLB offseason, there have been countless big-time free agent signings.

While many of these make sense, there are a handful that really shock fans.

Here is a look at the two signings that are most questionable in free agency so far this year.

2. Joey Gallo

In 2022, Joey Gallo really struggled.

These struggles were amplified by the fans in New York, as his time with the Yankees was very unproductive.

However, things did not get much better when he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Between the two teams, he posted a 0.2 WAR with .160 batting average.

While it is expected for him to hit at a low average, his power numbers also dropped to just 19 home runs.

This was still enough to earn him an interesting one-year, $11 million deal with the Minnesota Twins.

It is a questionable move because the Twins already have a lot of outfield depth, and Gallo would likely be taking Max Kepler‘s place.

While Kepler also had a terrible 2022, he has shown glimpses of being a star in the past.

For them to seemingly turn on Kepler is surprising, especially as they’re doing it with Gallo.

1. Masataka Yoshida

The Boston Red Sox have had a very odd offseason.

They failed to re-sign star shortstop Xander Bogaerts, letting him leave to go with the San Diego Padres instead.

Instead, they signed Japanese player Masataka Yoshida, a 29-year-old outfielder that has a .326 average in seven seasons in Japan.

Following the signing, an ESPN report included quotes from rival teams that valued Yoshida at half that contract size.

Because of this, it seems like the Red Sox may have panicked and wanted to still add something from this offseason.

However, failing to bring Bogaerts back and extend Devers has so far been the most questionable moves from the Red Sox.
